The Barbie Movie Character You Are, Based on Your Personality Type

Ever wondered which Barbie movie character you are deep down inside? Take a fun dive with us and discover your animated alter ego based on your personality type!

ESFJ: Blair Willows, “Barbie: Princess Charm School”

Examples of ESFJs are easiest to find in the Barbie movies, since Barbie herself is an ESFJ. The best example is from this absolute classic, Princess Charm School.

A textbook main character, Blair navigates a new school of royals “preppier” than her to prove that she can be the perfect princess. Her constant attention to the wellbeing of others, and desire to do the right thing despite her insecurity around those she deems as “better” than her, are key ESFJ traits. In the end, Blair wins over the hearts of everyone at the academy, proving that an ESFJ's  kindness and determination can sparkle brighter than any crown.

ISFJ: Princess Courtney, “Barbie in Rock ‘N Royals”

Rock ‘N Royals  is a relatively new movie but plenty of Barbie fans see it as a Gen-Z remake of Princess Charm School.  The main characters from both movies are similar, but Princess Courtney  is a better fit for an ISFJ personality.

Like Blair, Princess Courtney is tossed into a new school. However, she is accidentally enrolled in the school for musicians instead of princess prep. Way out of her element, she resorts to the ISFJ’s usual trick of people pleasing to navigate her new environment. But like all the best Barbie movies, Rock ‘N Royals is about building your true self. Using music as a conduit, Courtney makes unexpected friends and expands her identity beyond being a royal—one that embodies the nurturing and supportive nature of an ISFJ.

ESTJ: Barbie (Brooklyn) Roberts, “Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams”

In Barbie movies, ESTJ main characters tend to be portrayed as killjoys. However, ballet-dancing Barbie “Brooklyn” Roberts shows that ESTJs can be lively and fun.

Brooklyn is extraverted, makes friends easily and is always down to have fun. But her Thinker-Judger personality type is on full display when she meticulously plans out her path to Broadway. Unlike her ENFP friend Malibu, she relies more on grit and consistent effort than bursts of inspiration to achieve her goals.

ISTJ: Duchess Amelia, “Barbie: The Princess and the Popstar”

This is an unpopular opinion, but Princess and the Popstar is one of the greatest Barbie movies of all time. The character development, soundtrack and outfits make it an easy classic.

In this movie, Duchess Amelia is tasked with helping Princess Tori become the perfect princess. Though Tori rebels against basic castle rules—they really did try to write her as quirky for neglecting her responsibilities—the Duchess urges her to begin taking on responsibility for her kingdom.

Duchess Amelia exhibits the love for routine and predictability that many ISTJs have, and her inability to understand Tori's impassioned rejection of tradition is typical of her type.

ENTJ: Dame Devin, “Barbie: Princess Charm School”

Unfortunately, the ENTJ Barbie movie character on our list is a villain. Fortunately, she’s hilarious! Dame Devin from Princess Charm School, along with her daughter Delancy, are Blair Willows’ main enemies. The Dame is determined to keep Delancy in line to become Princess, but upon seeing Blair as a threat to her crown, she and Delancy sabotage Blair’s efforts at school.

Dame Devin exhibits the ENTJ’s unabashed desire to go after what they want. She lacks shame—an extreme version of the ENTJ’s determination—and does some pretty foul things to secure Delancy’s crown. Her lack of emotional intelligence or regard for those who do not directly benefit her are hallmark traits of unhealthy ENTJs.

INTJ: Grodlin, “Barbie and the Secret Door”

INTJ characters are underrepresented in the Barbie movies, but the cutest example is Grodlin, Princess Malucia’s trog companion. When her parents, the King and Queen, leave temporarily, Grodlin is expected to keep the Princess out of trouble.

Like most INTJs, Grodlin takes his responsibilities seriously and has little to no patience for Malucia’s spontaneous nature. His strong Judging traits, combined with his Introversion, make him annoyed with deviations from his plans. However, as Malucia learns to use her imagination and bravery for good, Grodlin’s loyalty to her also deepens. INTJs may appear detached, but their true friends know that they have a big heart hidden under their logical exterior.

ENTP: Rafa, Barbie: “Big City, Big Dreams”

The second character on this list from Big City, Big Dreams is Rafa, one of Malibu and Brooklyn's close friends from performing arts school. Rafa has an extravagant personality and even more extravagant fashion designs. His Extraversion allows him to build the Barbies’ friend group through thick and thin. His Perceiving nature is shown by disorganized designs and reliance on pure inspiration to fuel his efforts.

Near the beginning of the movie, he tosses out two intricately designed dresses because they have failed to light up like he envisioned. When Brooklyn tries to make him see more practical uses for the dresses, he refuses—because the vision he had in his head did not become a reality. This focus on what should be, rather than what is, is  a hallmark trait of ENTPs.

INTP: Lazlo, “Barbie: Spy Squad”

This movie is more niche since, by the time it was released, Barbie movies had severely fallen off. But because INTPs are rare in the Barbie franchise, Spy Squad is one of the only movies to feature an INTP main character.

Lazlo is the brains behind Barbie and her friends’ spy missions, preferring to keep to himself rather than go out and fight with the others. His Thinking and Perceiving nature is displayed by him often getting lost in the joy of technological innovation, at the expense of paying attention to what is right in front of him.

A classic INTP, Lazlo is intimidated by his crush on Teresa, Barbie's friend. They wait until the end of the movie to become official, since he has trouble initiating romantic relationships.

ENFJ: Azura, “Barbie: Fairytopia”

One of the most beloved characters in the Fairytopia franchise, fairy Azura is one of the seven magical guardians of Fairytopia. When protagonist Elina sets out to save Fairytopia from poisoning, Azura acts as a constant guide and source of support.

ENFJs are characterized by their unwavering belief in the goodness of people, and that is Azura’s defining trait. When the villain Dahlia changes her ways and leaves Fairytopia, Azura is the only guardian who believes she has become a better person. Azura also acts as a maternal figure and is intensely loyal. Her strong moral compass and ability to welcome foreigners with warmth is  indicative of her NF personality type.

INFJ: Cloud Queen Rayla, “Barbie and the Magic of the Pegasus”

A combination of Frozen, Tangled and Snow White, this complex story features the main character Annika who must journey to a fantasy world to reunite with her long-lost sister. The world is ruled by Cloud Queen Rayla, who took in Annika’s sister after she became a Pegasus and could not turn back into a human (did we say it was complicated?)

Queen Rayla is benevolent and loved by her people, and she tries her best to be fair. As leaders, INFJs are fixated on justice and involved in the lives of the people they lead. Rayla surpasses her responsibilities as Queen by taking care of Brietta—Annika’s sister—and helping Annika with her personal quest.

While she prefers to keep to herself, Rayla gifts Annika and Brietta with a bell to ring if they ever need her help. While INFJs do not always like being around other people, they let their loved ones know that in times of crisis, they will always be available.

ENFP: Bibble, “Barbie: Fairytopia”

There are a lot of ENFPs in the Barbie world but Bibble is the most iconic. Nobody is quite sure what its gender is, but we have all decided to use the pronoun “he”. Bibble is the most prominent animal sidekick and an energetic source of comic relief.

Like most ENFPs, his sunshiney nature makes him good to have around during serious times. He has a unique vocabulary and mannerisms, indicative of an Intuitive and Perceiving nature. But above all else, Bibble is a loyal friend. ENFPs have an ability to stick with people for years, and that's reflected in Bibble’s constant companionship with Elina, even in the face of danger.

INFP: Princess Alexa, “Barbie and the Secret Door”

The whole premise of The Secret Door is an INFP fantasy. Most people of this type would love the opportunity to open a secret door and disappear from daily life into a magical world. So it makes sense that the main character is one, too.

Unlike the other Barbie variants, Princess Alexa is more reserved—the plot depends on her personal experience of this fantasy. She is gentle and less forthcoming, and her Introverted tendencies make it harder for her to stand up for herself.

However, it is her creative way of seeing the world (characterized by her NFP) that makes The Secret Door such a good movie for young children. Princess Alexa’s unwavering appreciation for everything around her is child-like and enchanting, making her the perfect protagonist in a fairy tale.

ESTP: Stacie Roberts, “Barbie and Her Sisters in the Great Puppy Adventure”

Out of all the Roberts sisters, Stacie stands out. Skipper is the typical brooding teenager and Chelsea is a mini version of Barbie, but Stacie's Thinking personality and sporty interests differentiate her from the rest.

In The Great Puppy Adventure—another newer Barbie movie—Stacie and her sisters must solve a puppy mystery. This movie examines the dynamics between the Roberts’ personalities as they work together, but we see Stacie take the lead in this movie. She balances out her Feeling sisters by acting as a voice of reason. She is less swayed by emotions and more goal-oriented - classic ESTP.

ISTP: Courtney, “The Barbie Diaries”

Courtney is one of the few ISTP characters in the Barbie franchise, but she’s a memorable one. She, Barbie and their friend Tia are in a high school band. The movie focuses on the conflict between Barbie’s newfound popularity and her responsibilities to her friends.

Courtney and Tia are supportive friends, so when Barbie decides to conduct a study on popularity for the school broadcast channel, they understand why she’s missing band practices. However, just like any other ISTP, Courtney is observant. She notices more than Tia that Barbie’s popularity is starting to change her. When she perceives an unforgivable shift in Barbie’s personality—spreading rumors about her friends to maintain popularity—she temporarily ends their friendship.

True to her type, Courtney is also grounded. She is content to play drums and go to the beach with her friends. When things start to shift, she is not jealous of Barbie’s new opportunities—she just wants her friend back.

ESFP: Merilah Summers, “Barbie in a Mermaid Tale”

Merilah Summers is the classic ESFP protagonist of the Mermaid Tale movies. She lives with her grandfather and surfs on the Malibu surfing team, earning the nickname “Queen of the Waves”. When she has a strange reaction to the water during a surfing competition, she learns that she is half-mermaid and journeys into her mother’s home, Oceana.

Merilah is easily sidetracked and thrill seeking. She's also practical. In surfing, this makes her extremely competitive. When she undergoes her first mermaid transformation, she gets over the fact that she’s part mermaid pretty quickly and immediately starts thinking about how to transform back into a human—like most ESTPs, she has simple motivations and a one-track mind.

ISFP: Keira, “Barbie: The Princess and the Popstar”

Yet another character from the beloved Princess and the Popstar, Keira is Princess Tori's counterpart. While Tori bemoans the responsibility that comes with being a royal, Keira is traveling the world as a purple-haired popstar. When the two decide to switch lives, she gains more appreciation for her artistry.

Keira is the best example of an ISFP in the Barbie franchise. Everything she is revolves around making music, and she finds inspiration in the day-to-day. While she and Princess Tori are both carefree, Tori slacks off because she wants to have fun —Keira uses her free time to work on her craft.

Keira's natural flexibility allows her to switch lives with Tori, juggling being a new princess with solidifying her pop career. Like all healthy ISFPs, she knows how to live in the moment.
