A group of friends chat with one another.

If you’ve taken an Enneagram test, you know it gives you valuable information about yourself and your M.O. You might love that you’re a Type 7, or not so keen on being a Type 1...but have you ever thought about how other people might perceive these traits? Trust us, it’s not always what you’d expect.

For instance, your Type 7 spontaneity? Some friends might love that you can turn a dull Tuesday into an adventure, while others might think you're a tad unreliable. Those Type 1 standards? Some people admire your high expectations, while others wish that you would just chill out already!

No matter what type you are, there will always be varying opinions about your personality and being so close to yourself means you often cannot see what others are seeing. So, let’s dive into what people really think about you, based on your Enneagram type.

Type 1: “I bet they have spreadsheets for their spreadsheets.”

Ones will find any excuse to create a schedule, write a task list or store their soup cans in alphabetical order—you're nothing if not organized! But beware, your Type 1 tendencies can sometimes come across as uptight or inflexible to others. They might see you as a perfectionist who doesn’t know how to relax, and you're seriously creating more problems for yourself if you take responsibility for everything. Maybe it’s time to let your hair down and join in on some unstructured fun once in a while.

Type 2: “Their love language? Doing your laundry.”

Twos are givers… to a fault. You’ll do the laundry, wash the dishes or step in to help an overstretched friend before they even ask. While this might make you the ultimate bestie, it can also come off as a little too people-pleasing for some people. Not everyone needs your help—or wants to feel like they owe you something in return. So make sure you're not just lending a hand to get validation or reassurance that you’re needed. Or maybe it’s time that you let someone else take care of you for a change.

Type 3: “They 're the definition of work harder, play harder.”

Ambition is a Three's middle name. When you’re not climbing the corporate ladder like it’s an immunity challenge on Survivor, you’re racing through the self-checkout line like it’s the Indy 500. But not everyone is on the same fast track as you, and some might see your drive as pushy or competitive. Remember to slow down and enjoy the journey. You won't look bad if you lose at Scrabble—just human. It’s important to take a breath and enjoy life's quieter moments too.

Type 4: “They have an emo playlist for every mood.”

Fours are known for being highly emotional and in tune with their feelings. You might be that friend who always has a curated playlist for any type of mood, but not everyone appreciates your dramatic tendencies. Anything mainstream is boring to you, and this can sometimes put you on the fringes, making others see you as eccentric or overly contrarian. While your depth and complexity are parts of your charm, remember that not everyone dives deep—some people enjoy the shallows, and that's okay too.

Type 5: “They’ve got a prepper plan for the apocalypse.”

The Five's motto is, “be prepared.” And “knowledge is power.” And also, “I’ll watch your back, just stay out of mine.” Your friends know that during an apocalypse, they're driving straight to your house because you’ll have everything they need to survive, from tinned foods to gas masks. But you're not sharing it without some serious convincing. You're great at finding creative ways to work with limited resources, Five, but sometimes your independence and weirdly creative thinking can come off as distant or uninterested in the needs of others. Try to remember that not everyone is as self-sufficient as you are.

Type 6: “They’re more loyal than a golden retriever.”

Loyalty is the Six's relationship superpower. You'll go to great lengths to help others and be their biggest cheerleader. Although it’s great that people can see how you fiercely support those you love, be mindful that you don’t give others so much support that you screw yourself over. If you’re ignoring red flags that someone in your circle doesn’t have your best interests at heart, you’re not being loyal to yourself.

Type 7: “They’re ready to party at 8 a.m. on a Monday.”

People who hang out with a Seven instantly feel upbeat. Your vibe rubs off on everyone you meet, which is awesome because you’re the king or queen of making a memorable impression. Since you’re always chasing adventure, people see you as being down for a party whenever, even if it’s Monday morning. But are they taking you seriously if you’re always in vacation mode? Show your serious side once in a while to prove that you're not just all fun and games.

Type 8: “They’re more protective than a mama bear.”

Eights are champions of the underdog. Everyone has you on speed-dial for times when drama gets dumped on their doorstep. You’re assertive and take a stand for people who don’t feel like they have a voice, which is why you’ve gained this reputation. But remember that sometimes people need to advocate for themselves, and if you're constantly swooping in to save the day, they might start to see you as overbearing or controlling. Let others handle their own problems once in a while.

Type 9: “They’re like human Xanax.”

Nines are known for being calm, cool, and collected—sometimes a little too calm. You’re the ultimate zen person; peace-loving and mellow. You like to take your time when doing things and hate being rushed. After a hectically social day, you might head straight back to your sanctuary (your bed) because you need to recharge. While your laid-back attitude is generally appreciated, some people might see it as being lazy or just pushing issues under the rug. It’s worth confronting whatever’s bugging you instead of just going with the flow to keep the peace. Remember, your voice matters too.
