The Personality Type of (Almost) Every Bridgerton Character

Dearest reader, in honor of Season Three of Bridgerton premiering this month, we’ve broken down the personality types of some of our cast favorites.

Anthony Bridgerton: Enneagram 3 & ENTJ

Anthony is highly driven and focused on success, which is seen in his determination to fulfill his duties as the Viscount. He is also very image-conscious, often worrying about the family's social standing and how others perceive him. These traits, along with his ability to navigate society’s expectations with ease and his off-the-charts charisma (who knew rizz was SUCH a thing in the Regency era?) make him a quintessential Enneagram Type 3.

Anthony is assertive and takes charge, especially in his role as the head of the Bridgerton family, which aligns with the innate leadership qualities of an ENTJ. He is strategic and goal-oriented, seen in his approach to finding a suitable wife and managing family affairs. He can be stubborn and has high standards for himself and others, a characteristic of the ENTJ Commander personality type. He is not afraid of confrontation and will stand up for his beliefs and his family, demonstrating the ENTJ's strong-willed nature.

ENTJs can be demanding and commanding romantic partners, with high expectations for their objects of affection – as seen in his sparring with Kate. We will leave you with this quotable evidence: “You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires.”

Eloise Bridgerton: Enneagram 5 & ENTP

Eloise is curious and perceptive, always seeking new knowledge and understanding, particularly about the world beyond her immediate experience. She values independence and often retreats to her own world of books and learning, typical of the Enneagram Five, who need time for personal space.

Eloise loves to challenge ideas, often questioning societal norms and the status quo, which is typical of an ENTP. She is quick-witted and enjoys intellectual debates, a common trait among the ENTP Visionary personality. She thinks outside the box, as seen in her many, inspired investigations into Lady Whistledown's true identity. She values her independence and is non-conformist, often clashing with the expectations placed upon her as a woman in her time, showcasing the ENTP's desire for autonomy.

Benedict Bridgerton: Enneagram 4 & INTP

Like many Enneagram Fours, Benedict desires to find his own identity and is focused on self-expression, which is evident in his pursuit of art. He has the emotional depth and sensitivity to beauty that are known traits for this type.  He feels like he is different from his family and peers – an outsider, which is also a common feeling for Type Fours.

Benedict is introspective and often lost in thought, exploring his artistic passions and questioning his place in society, which is indicative of the INTP's quest for understanding. He is independent and non-conformist, seen in his pursuit of a life beyond the expectations of his noble birth. This, along with being open-minded are traits common in the INTP Architect personality type. He also values intellectual pursuits and is often detached from the more practical concerns of his family, showcasing the INTP's preference for abstract thinking over day-to-day details.

Colin Bridgerton: Enneagram 7 & ESFP

Colin is adventurous and optimistic, always looking for new experiences and pleasures, while wanting to avoid pain and discomfort – classic tells of an Enneagram Seven. Like many Sevens, this drive can lead him to sometimes act impulsively or irresponsibly.

A social butterfly who adores the spotlight, Colin has traits characteristic of an ESFP. He is spontaneous and seeks adventures and excitement beyond the town. He is also adaptable and resourceful and able to navigate different social situations with ease, a trait common in the ESFP Performer personality type. He values his relationships and is supportive of his siblings, showing off the sometimes-softie nature of the ESFP.

Lady Violet Bridgerton: Enneagram 1 & ESFJ

Lady Violet has strong moral values and strives to maintain order and propriety in her family, hallmarks of an Enneagram Type One. She is often the voice of reason and guidance, upholding high standards for herself and her children. Her desire for integrity and familial improvement align with the traits of the One – also known as The Perfectionist.

Lady Violet is deeply committed to her family and their social standing, always ensuring her children are well-matched and happy, which is characteristic of the ESFJ's focus on harmony and support within their community. She upholds the traditions of the time, placing much importance on following societal rules – a typical trait of ESFJs who value structure and order. She manages her large household with ruthless efficiency, planning events and matches, which demonstrates this type’s strong organizational skills and attention to detail. But Lady Violet is also warm, providing emotional support to her children, in line with the caring nature of the ESFJ Provider personality type.

Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings: Enneagram 8 & INTJ

Simon is assertive and decisive, quick to take control of situations and to stand up for himself, as seen in his boxing and negotiations. He has a tough exterior but is vulnerable inside, which is a common trait of Type 8s who fear being harmed or controlled by others. His protective nature towards Daphne and his estate are major Type Eight vibes. The character who helped us all understand the term “rake,” is also, like many Eights, magnetically confident.

Simon is strategic and plans meticulously, especially when it comes to navigating the social landscape of the town, which is indicative of the INTJ's forward-thinking. He is independent and confident in his abilities, often preferring to work alone, a common trait among the INTJ Mastermind personality type. His clear vision for his future (determined not to have an heir) shows off the INTJ's strong will and decisiveness. He is also innovative in his approach to avoid marriage and societal expectations, showcasing the creativity often found in INTJs.

Penelope Featherington: Enneagram 6 & INFP

As an Enneagram Six, Penelope is cautious and seeks security, often worrying about the future and her family's standing. She is loyal to her friends, especially Eloise, and is driven by a sense of duty and commitment. Penelope's struggle with self-doubt and her need for support reflect the characteristics of a Type Six.

Penelope is idealistic and empathetic, often seen in her deep care for her friends and her desire for a more just society, aligning with the INFP's values. She is introspective and despite her deceptions, does value authenticity, choosing to write as Lady Whistledown to express her true thoughts and feelings. Penelope is sensitive and reserved, preferring to observe rather than be at the center of attention, a trait common in the INFP Healer personality type. She has a rich inner life and is imaginative, which fuels her ability to create the persona of Lady Whistledown and captivate the audience with her writing.

Queen Charlotte: Enneagram 1 & ESTJ

Queen Charlotte is principled and has a strong sense of right and wrong, often dictating the social rules and expectations. She is orderly and strives to maintain control over her court, reflecting a Type One's desire for perfection and order. The Queen's critical eye and her efforts to improve society's standards are typical of the Perfectionist Type One.

Queen Charlotte is organized, authoritative and has a strong sense of duty, embodying the ESTJ's leadership qualities. Her focus on maintaining order and her influence on society's rules showcase her ESTJ traits of structure and control. She values tradition and has a clear set of expectations for how others should behave, characteristics typical of the ESTJ Supervisor personality type. Her directness and command over social situations reflect the ESTJ's straightforward communication style.

Marina Thompson: Enneagram 2 & ESFJ

Marina is caring and driven by her need to be loved, which is seen in her relationships and her desire to secure a future for herself and her child – classic traits of an Enneagram Two. Like many Twos, she is empathetic and tries to help others, even when she is in a difficult situation herself. Marina's actions are often driven by her need to be needed and to maintain connections with others, which are core desires of Type 2.

Marina seeks peaceful relationships, reflecting the ESFJ's focus on social harmony and support. She is very practical and concerned with her and her family's well-being, aligning with the ESFJ's sense of responsibility. Marina's desire for acceptance and her attention to social cues are typical of the ESFJ Provider personality type. Like many ESFJs, she can also be sensitive to criticism and highly values the opinions of others.

Lady Danbury: Enneagram 8 & ESTJ

Assertive and Protective, Lady Danbury is known for her commanding presence in high society, which is characteristic of Type Eights who are often seen as authoritative and protective. She does not shy away from confrontation and can be quite intimidating, a trait that Type Eights often exhibit when they perceive injustice or feel the need to protect someone. Lady Danbury wields significant influence and power within the social circles of the 'ton', which aligns with this type’s drive to  be in control of their own life and destiny.

Lady Danbury is authoritative and has a commanding presence, often taking charge in social settings, aligning with the ESTJ's leadership qualities. She is direct and honest, not afraid to speak her mind or call out others, a common trait among the ESTJ Supervisor personality type. She is quite practical and values tradition, seen in her many efforts to uphold her marriage and all the customs of the town. She has high expectations and is not easily swayed by emotions, demonstrating the ESTJ's focus on logic and order.

Kate Sharma: Enneagram 1 & ISTJ

As soon as she arrives Kate consistently demonstrates a strong sense of right and wrong, often acting as the moral compass for her family – and protecting her sisters fiercely as they navigate their marriage prospects. This, along with her  composed and controlled demeanor, especially in public settings, reflect the self-discipline typical of Type Ones.

Like many Ones, Kate strives for perfection in her own behavior and expects the same from others, particularly when it comes to societal norms and family reputation. She can be critical of herself and others when expectations are not met, as seen in her interactions with her sister and Anthony Bridgerton. She feels a deep sense of responsibility for her family, especially her younger sister, Edwina, often putting their needs before her own desires.

Kate is depicted as a very responsible and dutiful character, often putting her family's needs above her own.

She shows a strong sense of duty towards her younger sister, Edwina, ensuring she makes a good match in society. Like many ISTJs, she pays close attention to detail, which is evident in her planning and managing of Edwina's debut into society. Kate often upholds traditional values and is seen as serious and reserved, especially in social settings – both ISTJ traits. A direct ISTJ, she is also not afraid to speak her mind or stand up for what she believes is right, even if it means clashing with others, such as Anthony Bridgerton.

Daphne Bridgerton: Enneagram 2 & ISFJ

Although not returning to Season Three, we have got to cover Daphne! A classic Enneagram Two, Daphne often puts others' needs before her own, especially when it comes to her family. She seeks love and appreciation, which is evident in her quest to find a suitable husband and maintain her family's reputation. Daphne's caring nature is a hallmark of Twos, as she often acts as a mediator and caretaker within her circle.

Daphne has the nurturing nature of an ISFJ, when looked at through the lens of the 16 Myers and Briggs personality types. She is traditional and values social harmony, working hard to maintain her family's reputation and adhere to societal expectations. She is detail-oriented and observant, noticing subtleties in social interactions that others might miss, a trait common in ISFJs. She is also practical and realistic, often dealing with problems in a methodical way, which is characteristic of the ISFJ Protector personality.
